Why “Showmetheoil”?

What I Do

I’m a pilot.  I am employed by the world’s largest helicopter operator, providing services to the offshore oil and gas sector by transporting people and equipment to the oil and gas installations that pepper the global shoreline.  I travel overseas from my home(s) in Canada to work in this particular capacity for a period of 6 weeks.  After a 6-week tour is complete I am free to roam for the subsequent 6 weeks, or until such time as I am needed by the company to continue the work.

Why the Blog?

In the capacity of the touring helicopter pilot, one is able to have the unique experience of frequent overseas travel, long periods of time off, living in foreign countries, and working for the world’s largest and arguably one of the world’s most relied upon industry; upstream oil and gas.  These experiences can result in relevant knowledge of intercontinental travel, thought-stimulating cross-cultural interactions, informative insight into little-known corners of the world, or simply interesting anecdotes that can be shared amongst family and friends who are interested in catching up with where I’ve been and what I’ve been up to.   I am also hoping that, perhaps, it can also come in handy for anyone who happens to search for content that is relevent to what I am doing and sharing.
